The Humane Marketing Show. A podcast for a generation of marketers who care.

Feb 10, 2017

[spp-player url="http://traffic.libsyn.com/introvertbizgrowth/Introvert_Biz_Growth_Podcast-021.mp3"] I’m back with another solo podcast to chat with my fellow introverts about public speaking and comfort zones. We often generalize that all introverts hate public speaking, but in interviewing many on this podcast series, I have discovered that some introverts thrive in that setting. Let’s explore why that is and discuss how to analyze what you’re comfortable with in terms of speaking engagements as you take small steps to grow your capacity zone. I also cover the topic of saying ‘no.’ Listen and learn a step-by-step approach to deciding which opportunities are worth expanding your capacity zone and which ones to decline.

In this episode you’ll learn…

  • How some introverts thrive in public speaking situations.
  • How public speaking is like playing an instrument. It’s easier for introverts if they know their music (content) and have a passion to share it with others!
  • How introverts deal with feeling drained after a public speaking engagement.
  • Why I prefer public speaking opportunities over networking events.
  • Why it’s less scary to think about expanding your capacity zone as opposed to stepping outside your comfort zone. It’s okay to take baby steps as you grow the strengths you already possess.
  • What questions to ask yourself when offered opportunities that are outside your comfort zone.
  • How I approached the decision to accept/decline an offer to speak at a conference that would put me outside my comfort zone.
  • How to evaluate whether your inclination to say ‘yes’ is about personal growth or ego.
  • When to say ‘no’ to opportunities that aren’t right for you.
